Shimano Shimano Acera

Model/Year: 2018

Pros: Great price, reliable shifting, easy to set up and adjust.

Cons: Could be smoother

Model/Year: 2015

Pros: Cheap, came stock on my Motobecane 529HT.

Cons: Flimsy, does not hold up to abuse, broke FOUR times in THREE months over only 200 miles. I hardly dared ride the bike because I knew I would have issues. Flimsy, does not hold gears very well, a lot of ghost shifting. I know run Shimano Deore and am quite a bit happier, though I personally think SRAM does a better job based on a few other rides I've had.

Recommendation: Upgrade if you have a bike worthy of extra $$.

Pros: Can take a beating

Cons: Mmeh

Recommendation: Great derailleur, not the most fancy but I have never ever had a problem with it

Pros: Cheap

Cons: Nothing really

Recommendation: You always hear these gear heads talking about needing the best of the best, but I have been abusing this since 2005, and haven't had any issues to speak of. I am sure the top of the line is better but if I break this, I won't really lose sleep over it when I have to replace it. It's still holding strong, though.
