Model/Year: WD-40

Pros: Lots of pros, just not bike related

Cons: Don't use it on your bike

Recommendation: This is an amazing product, but it has no place on your bike. It is a dirt magnet and will do more harm than good. There are other, better products to do whatever you're doing with this on your bike. WD40 is for squeaky cabinets, not Shimano components.

Pros: Price and Volume

You can't go wrong with WD-40. Its like duct tape, it works and fixes everything. It definitely can degrease a dirty chain.

Cons: I would not recommend using Wd-40 as a lubricant, so beware of how you are using it.

Recommendation: Yes. Budget Friendly.

Pros: Works great as a degreaser.

Cons: The only real con about this stuff is the tendancy for people to think that it is also a lube.

Recommendation: PLEASE don't use it to lube ANYTHING. This is NOT to be used for lubing or friction reduction. Use it as a degreaser or even to penetrate rusted bolts.

Pros: Cleans everything
Doesn't cost nearly as much as bike specific products
Can be used for other projects, not a single purpose tool

Cons: Doesn't push me up hills

Recommendation: Found at your local hardware stores, Home Depot, Lowes, Target, Wal-mart, and probably anywhere else that is smart enough to stock it. Well worth to have on the shelf in the garage, in the basement, or under the kitchen sink.

While I'm a snob for some things, I sometimes refuse to pay 3x as much for a specific product if something like WD-40 is widely available.

Pros: - It's a classic!
- This stuff will strip grease, oil, adhesive, and just about any other gooey, goopy, messy crap you want to remove from metals.
- It's cheep and nothing fancy.
- Will break loose any metal parts ceased by rust and grime.

Cons: This product will strip away every bit of lubricant it touches, so be careful where you spray it.

Recommendation: DO NOT try to lubricate any parts with this product. it is a lubricant remover.
