Devinci Cycles have two new bikes out today, a hardtail and a full suspension bike, both aluminum, and both made in Canada.
The Kobain
The Kobain hardtail has been revised with modern geometry and 29-inch wheels. The frame is 6061-T6 aluminum. The hardtail comes with a threaded bottom bracket, boost 148mm axle spacing, and a lifetime warranty. Devinci has made the frame with long dropper post capability. Smalls fit a 150mm-travel dropper, mediums fit a 175, larges fit a 200, and XLs fit a 200. Tire clearance is wide enough for a 29×2.6, and the Kobain fits a 28-32T chainring.
Geometry on the Kobain starts with a 75° STA, a 65.5° HTA, and 435mm chainstays. On a medium, the reach measures 445mm, with a 25-30mm change between sizes, a 1,191mm wheelbase, and a 723mm standover height.
The Kobain comes in two build kits, a Shimano SLX 12-speed for $1,700 or a Deore 11-speed for $1,300.
The Marshall
Devinci has also revised the full-suspension trail bike, the Marshall. The Marshall has grown from a 110mm travel 27.5+ bike to a 130mm travel with a 140mm fork, available in both 27.5 and 29-inch wheels. The Marshall frame is also made from 6061-T6 aluminum, and of course has Devinci’s Split-Pivot suspension platform. Devinci has also made the Marshall with size-optimized chainstays and wheels. Sizes XS and S have 27.5″ wheels and 430mm chainstays. Sizes M, L, and XL have 435mm chainstays holding their 29-inch wheels.
Other frame touches include a threaded bottom bracket, Boost 148 rear axle spacing, room for a 2.4″ wide tire on all frames, a spot for a water bottle in the frame, and compatibility for chainrings between 28 and 32T.
Geometry starts with a 66.5° HTA, and the seat tube angle varies on sizes, but hovers right around 77°. On a medium, the reach is 460mm, the seat tube is stubby at 420mm, and the wheelbase a reasonable trail bike length at 1,203mm. The Marshall also comes in an XS to fit riders 4’11” tall and up.
Devinci is selling the Marshall 29″ and 27.5″ in two different build kits, but both are priced the same, giving consumers a choice in the drivetrain spec. It’s available in a Shimano Deore 12-speed and a SRAM SX build. Both are quite a deal at $2,099. These are of course an entry-level build, and thus they are hefty at more than 34lbs. For the price, with a decent component spec and modern geometry, the Marshall should make a lot of riders happy.
