Stonewall Creek
Rabun County, GA
Single track, double track
8 miles
From Atlanta, take 85 north to 985. Take 985 north to Tallulah Falls, GA; 985 turns into US 23 (or Highway 441). Pass the Tallulah Gorge State Park and turn left at the BP Station. Turn immediately right onto Old Highway 441. Turn left onto FS 20 and continue until intersection. Parking on the right.
The first two miles of the trail is a climb up Saga Mountain. From the top there are great views of adjacent mountains. Continue straight past the intersection road on right; go left at the next intersection. There will be a couple of water breaks followed by a fork in the trail at about 4.5 miles. Take the right fork or chance a steep uphill short-cut. The trail quickly descends to Stonewall Creek. You will cross the creek four times. There are lovely waterfalls near the end of the loop. For the most part, the trails are soft, not rocky/rooty or technical. The ride is fun and fast and the stream crossings are not difficult. If you're not wet enough by the end of the ride, take a hike down the Tallulah Gorge and slide on the big slick rocks. Remember to get a permit though because park rangers patrol the area and give fines daily.
