| | Verdict | Just the thing if you need tough pedals with a platform. I can't count how many time I have wacked my Z pedals on rocks and things, they just
keep working. The large platform makes it easy to ride through rock gardens or other tricky sections not clipped in. There are enough grippy ridges to get traction, yet they are not so sharp as to leave me with bloody shins when things go wrong. Engagement is smooth, easy and reliable. Even in sticky clay mud I have always been able to clip back in. Unlike other pedals with large platforms I have had no issues with pedal body/shoe outsole contact interfering with cleat
engagement. I have maybe 2 or 3 seasons on mine and the bearings are still silky smooth. While heavier than some of the other pedals in this class Time makes up for it in durability and reliability. I recommend Time z-max pedals to both clipless beginners (large platform, easy to get in to, no shoe/pedal problems) and aggressive
riders (nice platform, tough as nails, durable, good bearings). | | Recommended for: Anyone |
