Pros
Cost effective, durable, and works well.
Cons
Needs frequent adjustment.
Review
Works well enough for what I do, but it needs tuning fairly often. When it becomes dirty or muddy you can feel it working harder.
Pros
Cheap.
Works ok.
Cons
Cheap.
Nothing really bad. It worked fine for me.

This came stock on my Specialized Rockhopper and gave me no issues. I ended up with an 'extra' XT when I built my full suspension bike and gave this to a friend. It is still chugging along on his bike, several years later now.

Pros
Cheap
Cons
Not as durable as some nicer derailleurs
Review
This derailleur provides reasonable performance in an affordable package, but isn't as durable or as crisp as a nicer XT derailleur
Pros
shifts fast cheap
Cons
nothing
Review
great shifts very well for a lower end rear derailleur
Pros
Cheap as it comes. Great for casual rides. Works as expected.
Cons
Weaker spring than higher models. Heavier. No short cage option. Jockey wheels spin with much higher friction. Needs a lot of attention to keep it smooth.
Review
For the sub $20 that these can normally be found, they are a great deal. Not the best that Shimano makes but not marketed that way either. Great starter derailleur or cheap replacement solution.

Pros
I have riding one of my XC MTB's since '03 and i have had no issues with this dérailleur besides minor tuning. For it being a lower end dérailleur, it works great, and I have put it through some abuse.
Cons
Nor really, but it does need to be tuned from time to time, especially when riding hard.
Review
For the cost, this dérailleur rocks!

Pros
Riding a Trek 4300 since more than 4 years, I've never had any issue with the Alivio! Precise, efficient and robust!
Cons
It is so good so, I ve never had to adjust it :)
Review
There is no need to own first class derailleur. The quality of the Alivio replies to almost all conditions you could meet. The maintenance is very limited... one spray of WD40 before the ride... That's it!
Pros
Decent gear switch speed
Decent Price
Cons
Needs alot of attenion
I have to re tune it almost after every ride
low-quality
cant take the usual mtb beating and because of that beating and elements , it doesnt last to long and cant take miss calculated rock hops or slight mess ups and breaks quiet easily
Review
Good for people new to mtb and people that dont know anything about tuning derailleurs and people with small budget
Pros
Works as can be expected from a lower end Shimano derailleur. Haven't had any major problems at all, just needs adjustments from time to time.
Cons
Adjustments and lower quality.
Review
Good for starting out in mtb.
Pros
Provides smooth shifting, and very rigid
Cons
Requires alot of attention in regards to tuning.
Review
This is a good first timer all around derailleur.
