Livestrong Steamboat Mountain Bike Race

Description Welcome to LIVESTRONG STEAMBOAT!!! You are now embarking on making a difference. The LiveStrong Steamboat weekend (to be held on August 7 & 8, 2010) has been created to raise funds and awareness to combat cancer, both GLOBALLY and LOCALLY. Whether you are a survivor, family or friend of a patient or decedent, participant, sponsor, or concerned citizen, you can MAKE A DIFFERENCE. This is your opportunity to do something SIGNIFICANT. It is anticipated that half of the proceeds raised during the weekend event will go directly to the Lance Armstrong Foundation for cancer research on a global scale, and the remaining half of the proceeds will go directly to the Yampa Valley Medical Center for the purchase/maintenance of a mammogram machine and related services at the local level. Cancer cuts across all races, religions, nationalities, and ages. Cancer does not discriminate and we have all been affected in some way. On Saturday, August 7, 2010, there will be a ballroom auction and fundraising gala held at the Steamboat Grand. Linda Armstrong Kelly (SuperMom to the 7 time Tour de France champion- Lance Armstrong) will be the Keynote Speaker for the evening, expressing her personal fight to educate the world about her experiences and knowledge concerning the challenge to find a cure for the deadly disease. We are grateful that Linda will take time out of her tremendous schedule and travel from Dallas, Texas for the event. Also (tentatively) on Saturday, Doug Uhlman, President and CEO of the Lance Armstrong Foundation, will present his wisdom and expertise in the fight against cancer, not only from his perspective as a global philanthropist but as a 3-time cancer survivor. We are (hopefully) grateful that Doug will take time out of his tremendous schedule and travel from Austin, Texas for the event. Next, on Sunday morning August 8, 2010, the first annual LIVESTRONG STEAMBOAT mountain bike ride will be held at the base of the Steamboat Ski Mountain. (Tentatively, we have requested Colorado Governor Bill Ritter to inaugurate the ride and to provide emarks to all the participant’s.) We are also excited to announce that the Steamboat Ski Resort and Corporation will partner with the event allowing for three separate courses for the rider participants. The three rides will occur simultaneously. A challenging ride will be mapped for the cycling enthusiast, while the moderate recreationalist rider will have the opportunity to ride up the Steamboat Ski Mountain gondola for either a scenic loop ride with a panoramic view of Steamboat (and a gondola ride down), or a downhilling trail to test your speed and technical skills. Immediately following the Sunday ride, there will be a barbecue at the base of the Steamboat Ski Mountain where sponsors will display their goods and schwag will be distributed. Linda Armstrong Kelly and Doug Uhlman will have additional words for the participants and their families as well. Also, big screen videos will be on hand projecting the latest Livestrong manifesto, sponsor words, and pictures from the days’ events. We are looking for additional sponsors!
