Now this is awesome, and I thought my 10 year old son (my little Sam Hill) was good. Check out this wild video of a 9 year old boy who knows how to have fun on his 18" BMX at the track and out in the dirt.

I remember being that fearless and I see that trait building in my son (my little Sam Hill), but this kid is just amazing. I have seen so many kids out at our local freeride park doing things that just amazed me, and it just makes me want to give it my all once more. I have fun riding with these kids, makes me feel young and fearless again, but I do know my limits even though I do push them to there limits sometimes. I am proud of my sons accomplishments, and he is definitely the talk of the trail with all the guys. Heck, some of the younger kids ask him for his autograph from time to time, NO BS! Makes me feel good deep in side when I see that. Yeah, my son is a little Sam Hill without any doubts, but this kid is good.

Well, my video camera is gone south, but I have some fairly decent photos of him jumping some smaller jumps and drops from a while back on Singletracks "Mountain Bike Trails" at the Tillman Canal MTB Trail here locally in Melbourne, FL. All the good shots did not turn out well (just my luck), my wife is not very good with the camera, and I rather be riding than snapping pictures. I just got a better camera, and my son just stepped up to a FR/DH MTB, so I am ready to take better photo's of him on his new FR/DH MTB. I think he was 8 years of age in those photos at Tillman.

Yeah, I started him out at Alafia and Santos, among our local FR trail and Ft. Pierce as well, so he has been building his skills since he was five. It took him a few years to get over the fear factor, but he is getting much better at it now. He is actually hitting 5' drops, 5' to 6' step-ups, and some decent 3' to 4' jumps. He is still working on getting bigger with his table-tops and hucks. like i said, he is my Sam Hill, and anyone that knows him from riding with him will tell you he is advanced for his age. I am very proud of him, but it was not an easy trip to where his skill level is now. heck, he gets more air than me and sometime some bigger hits as well, and I was a semi-pro DH racer from '00 to mid '08 (retired due to age and old injuries creeping back) as well as racing BMX back in the day.

We are supposed to be going up to Dalton, GA to visit family in March while on vacation and I told Jeff we could hook up at Ellijay, so if we do, we can all hook up and you two can see him in action. Thanks mudbunny!

Here's his new FR/DH rig:

Here he is with the guys on his BMX after some ripping:

Oh yeah! Very Happy

Thanks element!

How old is your boy? You can always start him out at 5 like I did, even though he had the love for riding bikes prior to that. He started out on a big wheel and never wanted to ride on the road, he was all dirt. Now I want to start him in some true DH, nothing like we have down here, There is some DH in north FL where there are some pretty big hills, but nothing like in the mountains of NC, GA, TN, or SC. He loves speed and gnarly terrain, heck he can keep up with me on the trails. Freeriding is his middle name just about, but he wants to get more involved in some form of BMX racing and DH. I love it, and he keeps me on my toes!

Thanks bro, but I cannot take all the credit because he is a born natural on a bike. He could be even better if he would get his mind out of the way half the time. He is my little Atherton though!

If you happen to be in the area of Santos on the the weekend of the TAKMTB'ing (Take a Kid MTB'ing) Day on 10/03/2009, stop on by and watch him get his FR game on in the Vortex. We will be there Friday, Saturday, and a piece of Sunday with Singletracks member 'GALAXY' and his family camping.
