When I try to adjust the air pressure in the shock, I seem to loose quite a bit when I am unscrewing the pump. Does anyone have a good way to keep this from happening? It starts to leak right at about the last quarter turn and it sounds like quite a bit is coming out since the shock is so small and seems to be under a lot of pressure.

the bike is an 09 specialized xc pro

Thanks for you help in advance.

No worries, just the left over air pressure in the line of the shock pump. This is very common. If the shock is actually loosing a bit of air pressure besides the leftover air in the line, just add a bit more air pressure. For example.....Lets say you are putting in 140psi, then put in 150psi instead.

BTW, what is the shock you are using? Fork or rear shock?

Well one tip on not loosing too much air that works well starts with when you place the pump on...When you are screwing the adaptor on the shock in the first place just tighten it on enough that it registers and then turn it 1/4 turn more..That way when you are removing it, you can get it off quicker without leaking out too much air...

Also that burst of air is the air in the line, like Chilly mentioned

Thanks, Ill try those tips today.

Chili, it is for the rear shock, its a Fox Triad II. Is there such thing as putting to much pressure in there? Could it blow? Im putting about 230 psi in there. I weigh just under 220 plus my camelbak with gear and water. Ive recently been riding on the bike path instead of the trail so I try to take anything I might need with me....I dont want to try to find a ride if I break down about 10 miles from home!!

Thanks for the help..I started riding about 1.5 years so Im still trying to figure all this out.

Hey milo, the max pressure that specific shock will handle is 300psi, so as long as you stay under that, you are all good. Just make sure that you set the Sag correctly to your weight first, and then Rebound & Compression afterward.

Here is some really specific set-up info for this specific shock to get you started milo, so check it out follow all the instructions to set the correct Sag, Rebound & Compression:

Fox Triad

Anyways, good luck bro and if you need anymore assistance, just ask away. There is no such thing as a dumb question around here.

Keep it real and ride hard! Very Happy
