Took me time to read all the comments, but I enjoyed the article. Very helpful article! Makes total sense. It's always nice when you can not only be informed, but also entertained! I'm sure you had fun writing this article.

Yeah Goo, I rode with clipless pedals at Trestle and Northstar - but I was probably the only one on the mountain. If I had a good pair of flat shoes I would have worn those the second time for sure!

haha chilipepper! that is me, i swear the bike is a size xs but remember i am only 5' tall! it was a heavy bike to have to pedal, so fortunately i avoided that! i really enjoyed DH and would be nice to have another bike :) jeff definitely rode at trestle, too, and with clipless pedals if memory serves me right.

Great write up! Sounds like you had a blast! The foot position sounds very interesting: heels down. I suppose if you're riding flats and going steeply downhill, it'd help keep your feet on the pedals. I don't know If i could physically ride flats without killing myself (and my man parts).

I know that years back most people rode downhill with clipless pedals. Are there many people that still do?

Really great write up mudhunny. Seriously! Yes, and even more yes, is DH a total blast. Though you do have to work (pedal) for some DH tracks (especially in the SE), but even then, it is a total blast. The most fun DH tracks are the ones with high speed berms to rail, table-tops, wall rides, and sweet drops to huck at speed. I have definitely seen a higher trend in girls and woman getting involved in DH racing these days, and that is a great thing. Not only a great thing, a heck of a lot better looking than looking at the men racing with you. Oh, did I mention very sexy as well. Wish my wife had my passion for some DH runs, but she is the passive rider in the family.

Glad to hear you got to experience some real fun riding, mudhunny. Is that you in the third picture? If it is, man that sled looks like a monster next to you. Did Jeff brave those runs or did you just leave him in dust with his tail between his legs? Ha! Ha!
