Today Diamondback Bicycles reveals two new trail bikes, the 27.5 Release and 27.5+ Catch, along with a newly patented suspension design called Level Link.

Level Link is a short link, four bar suspension system that was developed to create a bike that is a light and efficient pedaler but that descends like a big bike. Diamondback answers the challenge of separating the pedal and drivetrain forces from bump and suspension forces with this unique suspension system.

The lower link stays parallel with the chain line through compression while the upper link is perpendicular to the lower link when sitting on the bike to keep pedaling forces from interfering with bump forces. This placement allows bump forces to be a greater influence than pedaling forces. So expect smooth pedaling and the ability to take some big hits.

“Working with suspension visionary Luther Beal, we set out with a clear mission: to make the best pedaling trail bike on the planet,” says Michael Brown, Diamondback’s VP of product development. “The Level Link platform isolates horizontal pedaling forces and controls chain growth, maximizing traction on technical climbs and cornering performance. This allows the Catch and Release to climb like cross-country bikes without compromising their ability to charge the most aggressive lines, all at accessible price points that deliver unmatched value in today’s off-road market.”

The Diamondback Release features Level Link suspension, a short rear end and long, slack front end geometry, making it an ideal trail bike.  The top-of-the-line Release 3 build is spec’ed with a 150mm Rock Shox Pike RCT3 and 130mm Rock Shox Monarch Plus RC3 DebonAir rear shock. Diamondback also designed a new wheelset using Boost technology; the tubeless-ready Blanchard 28R wheels come with Schwalbe Hans Dampf 2.35″ tires. The rear frame triangle and rims are a striking red that calls out to speed-loving adrenaline seekers. Finally, a SRAM X1 drivetrain, SRAM Guide brakes, and KS Lev Integra dropper post deliver uncompromising performance. The Release 3 retails for $3,900 (US) while pricing begins at $2,500 (US) for the other builds.

Diamondback also applies its new Level Link suspension to a 27.5+ trail bike, the Catch. The Catch 2 build features a 130mm Fox Float 34 27.5+ fork and 130mm Rock Shox Monarch RT3 DebonAir rear shock. Diamondback’s tubeless-ready Blanchard 32R wheelset and Kenda Havok 2.8” tires provide serious traction and fast descending. A SRAM GX drivetrain, SRAM Guide brakes, and the KS Supernatural dropper post complete the package of this plus-sized trail animal. The Catch 2 is offered at $3,500 (US) and the more affordable Catch 1 build is available for $2,500 (US).
