The proper mineral name is Fluorite with a chemical composition of CaF, calcium, and fluoride. The name is a Latin word meaning....."to flow". Lower quality Fluorite is used as a flux among other things as well. Higher quality or gem grade quality Fluorite comes from Afghanistan specimens, among the Argentine, Italian, Brazilian, and Big John specimens out of England.
