It looks like the answer is no. Found this snippet on the official Garmin support forum:

Currently, there is no plan to add TCX/GPX read support for the Edge 500.

If you're having trouble loading TCX files in Garmin Training Center, make sure you're running the latest version of the software. TCX support came sometime around version 3 and if your copy is pre-version 3, you'll need to upgrade. No worries though, it's free from garmin.com!

[...] That being said, it is possible to carry out basic operations involving your Edge GPS and this tutorial walks you through the process of loading GPS routes on your Edge using Garmin Training Center for Mac. Many parts of the process are the same for the PC version which has been outlined here. All of the GPS data on singletracks is now available for your Garmin Edge GPS (both the 205 and 305) with one click. Find the trail you want by clicking the “Trail Maps” link at the top of any page and choosing your state from the pull-down menu midway down the page. For this example we’re using the Blodgett trail data (Colorado) which is available free of charge. [...]

[...] Dudes and Dudettes, I bought a GPS 205 a few months back with the dream of uploading courses and following maps on my 205. I use to (and still do) ride with Topo Maps, a compass and directions I get from various sources. I thought the GPS unit would eliminate some of the stuff I carry. Well, I had a hard time loading routes and never quite figured it out. The good people at Geoladders tried to help me but I just couldn’t do it. I was so bummed on the purchase and the unit I’ve considered selling it. Before I decided to pack it up and take a pretty picture of it for ebay I decided to seek help one last time and I just stumbled on this post from Singletrack. Hmmm, maybe I’ll give it one more try. All I want out of the GPS is to load courses and routes of new trails to aid in my exploring…is that to much to ask for? [...]
