I got tired of taking my bikes to the shop (poor/incompetent work, expensive, long repair times, etc.), and so last year I decided to turn part of my garage into a home bike shop. I’m very happy with how it came out. I have not had any of my bikes in the shop since finishing the project, and I have already saved a small fortune. Also, I find doing my own repair and upgrade work very rewarding–makes riding more fun. 😀
I have a very detailed list of all the tools in my home bike shop (updated regularly) along with pictures and video here. Hopefully that will give anyone looking to cut the LBS tether some good ideas.
Dude, this is great info. THANK YOU for taking the time to make detailed posts like this one (along with so many others).
I woke up on Christmas morning sick. I’d planned to ride all week long (I was on vacation this past week), but instead I sat around the house blowing snot bombs and wishing I was dead. 😢
I was riding through Wikiwa forest (Central Florida) about 3 months back, and I ate a giant spider web. I continued on until I got to my usual rest point, which was about another 2 miles. When I pulled my helmet off a giant banana tree spider crawled out from inside my helmet and sat there looking at me.
I casually picked up my helmet and shook it out like a boss, but inside I was crying like a little girl.

Sounds awesome, Chili!
I rode SC on Saturday. My lungs are feeling great again, and my cardio is back where it should be. The sesh started off a little rough, but by the end I was riding pretty good.
That long log on the backside tech offshoot is still too intimidating for me to ride. Who was is that rode that last weekend? Dylan, right? Awesome… he’s fearless.
Today I put in 14 miles in the sugar sand, roots and stumps at Wekiwa. Nothing very exciting out there, but a great cardio workout (and it confirmed my lungs are 100% again). Last weekend my lungs felt 50% at best. 😢
How are your lungs doing now? Sounds like they are improving, too…

You’re all class-acts and great riders. I gotta say, today was the most fun I’ve had mountain biking since I started riding about a year ago. Thanks for letting me tag along and learn from you all. Hope we can do it again!
Here are a few pictures from today…
