Most bikes can tolerate 10mm extra, no more. Buy a new bike if you’re looking to move to a big travel bike! Wheel size change is also unlikely, only bikes with specific designs can tolerate changing wheel size. ZipHead is 100% correct. Even if you could, the geometry would suck for a big hit bike.
If you have a tow setting that will solve the problem.

June 28, 2022 at 08:45 in reply to: Bike part or bike clothing that turned out to exceptional? #627630Pearl Izumi Pro Line bib. Was offended by the price, by the guy at my local bike shop told me to trust him and I can’t believe the difference! $200 and it’s worth every penny.
Muke is right about the riding, but Fruita in August is brutal. Crested Butte is Gods gift to Mtn Bikers and August is a good time- Doctor Park is a must. The drive is long, but worth it!!
Staying in the high country is a good idea in August. 3-4 hours from Breck covers most of the state, so your options are limitless. While in Breckenridge it is hard to beat Kennosha Pass to Breckenridge. 14er- Pikes Peak/ Elk Park. Monarch Crest is an absolute classic high country ride.
If you’re in Colorado, I’m selling my Slash.
Lift access is a great addition to this trip- especially if you don’t have much of it in your state. Winter Park is a great place and you can’t go wrong with that choice. You will be driving a lot of miles. so if you want to save a few, try Keystone it’s very close to Breck or while you’re in Crested Butte they have great lift service riding. Bring a full face helmet and extra pads! They can be rented.
Sunspot,
A little jealous of where you live! Love that area and go out at least once a year. Any trail I need to ride on this years adventure out there? Usually 1st week of October.
Greg
I like this idea, but am not exactly sure what you are looking for in an all inclusive but not guided. Air B&B where the owner is a local rider? What is it that you want specifically? I ask, because I’ve thought about this also. Wondering what options are out there???
Absolutely the best time to be in Colorado- Sept 15- Oct 15th is the best 30 day stretch. Might be one of the few times you can ride every place on your list at once. The post right below yours called the “Impossible Task” is a detailed list that covers all those areas- worth reading for your trip. Breckenridge- Kenosha pass to Brekenridge. Crested Butte- Doctor Park. Fruita- Kokopeli Trails and 18 Roads. While in Darango, if you can pull yourself away from the breweries and the last couple sectins of the Colorado Trail, head over to Cortez and ride Phil’s World. This is a great loop you have planned at the perfect time, have fun!
Bike Nerd kind of nailed it. When are you coming out- weather is the driving factor. The places you have chosen are amazing, but have shorter riding seasons and vastly diffirent seasons. Post a rough idea of when you are coming and we can give you accurate info. Altitude= drink more water or suffer!
All the big names make good helmets- it’s a liability otherwise, fit is everything.
Knee/elbow pads are a comfort issue also, but some stay up better than others. This is based partly on your body makeup. Fox or 611, once again all the big names make good products- COMFORT!
Gloves, less is more! If you don’t already have a pair of moto gloves sitting around, buy MTB gloves.
Good luck and enjoy your new bike!!!
The bike is fine, but probably not worth dumbing too much money into it. Think contact points! Grips, seat, pedals and shoes. Tires were a good investment also. Pedals and shoes can easily transfer to your next bike- even the seat if you want. The most important thing is that you make the bike comfortable enough that you actually ride it!!! Go out and ride that will tell you your next step.
Never
The weekend looks great for riding. Buffalo Creek, Oil Well Flats, or come into Colorado Springs and hit a variety of spots that are within ten mintes of each other. Heading out to ride Switchgrass in Kansas or would offer to take him out. There are some epics, but you run the risk of bad weather this time of year and the above places should be safe bets. If your in Colorado Springs your hiking day can be Garden of the Gods and the Olympic Museum or up Pikes Peak. Let us know what you chose and how it went. Good luck, have fun!
Jeff, let me give you an example. You travel to a new city and don’t have the entire state open to your day due to time constraints. You want to see the local trails and listed in order by ratings so you can ride that day. This was very easy to do on the previous format, is there a way to do that now?
Alvin, great video , thx.
Outdoormom- How beginner? In great shape, good shape. or out of shape? Is riding the priority?
Riding:
Hard to argue with Sedona- not a beginner friendly destination, but enough for a few days. If you are in good shape and on the top of the beginner scale, this would be a great choice.
Colorado/Fruita would be my top choice, but March is our wettest month and makes it a high risk choice.
Bentonville’s weather should be perfect, lots of great riding for all levels.
Rentals:
All have plenty!
Food:
All 3 have great food choices, but Fruita would be limited if staying for a longer period of time (Grand Junction is not too far). Sedona and Bentonville are basically loaded with choices near by.
My choice would be Sedona.
Hope you have a great trip!
