I have zero experience with fat bikes in the snow, have 1 summer of riding one with a surly nate on the back and vee bulldozer on the front. Was going to put a nate on the front for winter riding. Are these sufficient for snow conditions on single track or should I just stud them? Thanks for any input or experience you may give.

It seems to me that studs are better for icy conditions than for straight snow. So if you find yourself riding on super ice trails, then I’d say it could be a good upgrade.
That said, I’m going on season 3 or 4 of winter fat biking, have not yet ridden a studded mountain bike tire, and don’t feel any need to stud my fat bike tires.
You could always just start the season on your current setup, and then add studs later if you find your tires to be inadequate.

Only handful of times I felt like studded tires would be great to have. It was mostly in Spring on icy climbs. Otherwise with proper pressure even 4 inch tires held with no issues.

OK great, I appreciate the advice guys. Looks like I’m gonna take the try it out first and see method. Glad I checked first prior to devoting time and money to studding up tires.

Really only needed for ice. I love riding in the snow. Especially while it is still falling! Enjoy the FAT!
