      Hello,

I am new to mountain biking. Used to do it as a kid but that was mostly just riding on random trails in the forest in our area. Looking to get back into it. I am in the market for a new bike. I am looking for a hard-tail bike.

Does anyone have any experience with the Cannondale Trail 8. I see it on the REI website and was going to check it out this weekend.

I am 6′ 2″-6′ 3″ if it helps. I am not looking for any crazy trails just going on natural paths as opposed to paved with perhaps some more difficult paths.

      Thanks in advance

That’s probably a great entry level bike.  The component spec isn’t great, but certainly adequate for light trail riding.  The good thing about c-dale is they make excellent frames even at the entry level.  If you decide to get more aggressive, the frame is worthy of upgrades, so you can always make it better part-by-part if you feel the need.

The Cannondale Trail 5 (not 8) is one of the recommended inexpensive mountain bikes at http://www.cheapbikes.org/mountain-bikes/hardtails/cross-country-hardtails but I expect the frame might be identical and you can always upgrade components later. Good luck and happy biking!

I have been beating my Cannondale Trail 5 for 3 solid years and love it. The only reason I would trade up is to go to full suspension.  My local dealer is a really cool family shop too, that can hooks me up with whatever I need.
