I am planning my first trip to Colorado and need to know if fires are causing trails to be closed. I am looking at Crested Butter, trail 401, Fruita, and the sort. Thanks for the assistance.

Crested Butte is fine.
Denver Front Range is fine.
I’m not sure about Fruita, but call Over the Edge Sports and they will know.

Fruita’s fine as well. Not many trees there to begin with. There is one fire north of Palisade (about 16 miles East of Fruita) that could impact one trail, but it’s not one of the area "must rides."
Colorado Springs Front Range and Ft Collins Front Range have lost a few trails, but again not ones you’d likely have on a vacation itinerary.
As of now, theres 11 wildfires in CO, but containment is increasing and none of them are threatening big name trails in our riding meccas.
Enjoy your trip!

Looks like I’ll be stuck in the Springs for the 4th. Yea I know it’s not a bad place to be stuck. Have been on the internet trying to find out about trail closures in the area. Know most anything north of Rt 24 is a no go. Does anybody know if the trails around Gold Camp Rd are open? Bear Creek, Captain Jacks, Seven Bridges, etc;

As of last night, most everything in town was open. The only things I know remain closed at this point are the trails that were lost (Waldo Canyon, Williams Canyon, Rampart Reservoir) and the Barr Trail (Pikes Peak).
For sure, I know Palmer Park, Ute Valley Park, Cheyenne Mountain Open Space and Red Rock Canyon Open Space are open.
The news said last night that Cheyenne Canyon (Stratton, The Chutes, Seven Bridges, St Marys Falls, Section 16, Buckhorn, Captain Jack’s) was open, but my daughter told me there was still law enforcement patrolling Gold Camp Road keeping people out. It may be due to differences in jurisdiction (some of those trails cross both city and USFS property, each of whom may be enforcing different rules at this stage).

From what I can gather they don’t want anything with a motor up there. Definitely will be here tomorrow, so will just ride up from town. Got all day, 😃 which will be a nice change, with all the heat have had get all my riding in before 10 or 11.

They are not letting any vehicles on High Dr, or Gold Camp. They will not let you on Gold Camp if you climb up the Chutes. However you can still use the large parking lot at the junction of High, and Gold Camp, and ride any trails from there including down the Chutes, just not via Gold Camp. They are not worried about mountain bikers coming down. Said they stopped 40 people last night with alcohol, and fireworks. 😏 Thank god stupid is not contagious. Decided I needed to do a little hiking, so used St Marys Falls Tr. to accesss Jones Downhill/ Pipeline, so maybe it is. Note to self ( next time bring hiking boots)
Had the place to myself no Motos , couple of bike tracks, and a lot cooler. 😃 -

Stationed out here in 78-79, wasn’t on duty or chasing skirts, was up there. Hasn’t changed much in 30 years. -
