best xc tire

Right now I’m using Specialized The caption, I noticed that the tire has amazing grip but I I gained A LOT of rolling resistance. I’ve heard maxxis has good xc tires. I ride mostly hard pack and lite loose

IMO I really like the Panaracer Fire XC Pros. Many people do not like them but I do. I about due to buy another set. I also run Kenda Nevegals on another hardtail I have but I like my Fire XC Pros.

I recommend Schwalbe Nobby Nic on the front and Schwalbe Racing Ralph on the back. Both tires are very light and extremely fast rolling. The Nobby Nic on the front is very grippy in all situations with a wide spaced tread for great mud shedding abilities. The Racing Ralph is a fast rolling knobby. I found this combination to be great for the singletrack on the east coast as it does well in loose leaf-litter and hardpack singletrack. Another great combination would be a Stick-E Rubber Nevegal in the front for grip and a Dual Tread Combo Small Block Eight in the rear. I prefer to have a lower profile tire in the back for less rolling resistance because the rear tire is almost always weighted (because you’re sitting) and therefore less likely to loose traction; in the front, I choose to run a very grippy front tire because that’s where I feel most traction is needed as the tire is usually never weighted as heavily as the rear unless you’re standing and also if your front tire slips you’re in trouble but if your rear tire slips its usually easily recovered. A bit verbose but there are my two cents. 😎

I like Maxxis tires in general, good sidewalls. The Ignitors that came on my bike were ok, not great. A friend of mine likes them a lot on the rear. I’m currently running a High Roller on the back of my hardtail and it rolls very free and offers some great braking. I think the cornering is ok also. The tread blocks seem to chunk out pretty fast riding on hard pack and rocks (both smooth river rocks and basalt).

For the front I really like the WTB Velociraptor. It may be a little heavy. On my full suspension, I have the original WTB Velociraptors front and rear. I like the rear version as-well.

Depending on your terrain, WTB nanoraptors are good XC tires, and personally, I am going to try out some Geax AKA’s for my racing this coming season.
