Last year we peeked at the new Siskiu N all-mountain bikes from Polygon while at Eurobike. This year, Polygon is out with the Siskiu D trail bikes, which look very solid, in both capability and price.
The Siskiu D is another bike that seeks to blend XC pedaling efficiency with all-mountain capability, to make it the ultimate, all-day trail bike. The updated series has a more slack head tube angle, a longer reach, a lower bottom bracket, and shorter chainstays.
Polygon has also revised kinematics on the Siskiu D. The anti-squat has been optimized and the suspension is more progressive. It starts with 120mm of travel in the rear, with a one-piece linkage system that reduces lateral flex in the rear triangle.
There is also enough room inside the frame to fit a water bottle.
On the 29er, the geometry looks on par with modern standards. Sizes XS and S have a 67° head angle with 75.5° seat angle, and 432mm chainstays. These sizes are available in a 27.5-inch wheel size.
Sizes M-XL have a 67.5° head angle and a 76° seat angle, with 436mm chainstays. The medium features a modern 445mm of reach. These sizes are available in a 29-inch wheel size.
While the geometry looks spot on, the most intriguing thing about the Siskiu Ds is the price.
The Siskiu D5 sells for a low, low $900USD. With that, buyers get an aluminum frame and entry level componentry, like the SR Suntour XCM HLO fork, a rigid seatpost, Shimano Alivio 2×9 drivetrain, and Shimano hydraulic brakes.
The Siskiu D7 ups the ante on components but doesn’t raise the price by a whole lot. It sells for $1,300, and comes with a Rock Shox Recon RL fork, an X-Fusion rear shock, a rigid seat post, Shimano M201 brakes, and a mixed component 11-speed drivetrain featuring a Shimano XT derailleur and Shimano SLX shifter.
While the Siskiu D series leaves a bit to be desired with the components, there is still some quality stuff in there, like WTB tires, a RockShox fork, and Shimano drivetrain bits.
