The USA Cycling National Fat Bike Championships, sponsored by Rocky Mountain Bikes, is heading to Grand Rapids, Michigan January 28, with the event taking place at the Indian Trails Bike Park. The race will feature junior, amateur, and pro/open levels and various divisions for juniors, seniors, masters, and singlespeed riders. While there are no race-day sign-ups, competitors may sign up as late as the day before the race, January 27. Racers are required to have a USA Cycling Race license, and one-day licenses can be purchased at the time of registration.
The Indian Trails Bike Park course is described as 4.2 miles long with rolling terrain, and Indian Trails offers one of the few fat bike courses that’s groomed exclusively for the use of fat bikers. For those who can’t make this year’s race, the USA Cycling National Fat Bike Championships will be returning to Indian Trails again in 2018, so start planning now! Last year’s race drew approximately 125 competitors, and this year’s race is projected to include roughly the same number of racers.
And for fat bike racers who can’t get enough, the Michigan Fat Bike State Championship race will be held the following day, January 29, 2017 on the same Indian Trails course. This is a USA Cycling event so competitors will need a license for this event as well. Racers will be competing for gold, silver, and bronze medals in various categories.
