Description: The trail starts out at Idle Hour Park in Phenix City.It is very very technical. NOT FOR BEGINNERS !!!!! Expect to fall at first. You will need a guide too. Lots of northshore action going on now-a-days. Trail is up and down. Lots of climbing and some short terrifying decents and obsacles. A great skills building trail. Beautiful scenery anytime of the year. Shaded and nearly all singletrack. Worth the drive from anywhere to ride this jewel.

Ok, this is still the hardest trail in the area to ride. Work is being done on the trails. Trail is not for beginners.

Drove 160miles south to get out of the rain to ride this and Flat Rock. This trail is not well kept. This trail is the only trail in Alabama that deserves the expert tag. Lots of ups and down with roots and short creek crossings that are very difficult. Fell into the creek when I didn't make it up the other side. I only rode briefly 2miles, no guide and I decided it was time to turn around. If you are in the area and what a challenge that you could potentially get hurt if you fell in a couple of spots, then this is the place. I will stick to my NE Alabama and N. Georgia trials.

Similar Trail: You guys in come up to NE Alabama. Iron Legs in Choccolocco, Desoto State Park has expanded to over 10miles its good now. The best trail in my opinion outside of NC is Raccoon Mtn in Chattanooga, TN.

This trail is the best. If you are in the area it is a must ride. Great climbs, decents, drops, rock gardens, singletrack, and everything else you could want.

Similar Trail: Ghost town in Salem

Trail is being cleared and cleaned. Part of the network of trails is superbly clean. Its still technical as c***, buts its alot better now

Trail is not kept up very well. Still a local favorite, and there are still a few board setups left intact. Has some really great and fast, technical downhill spots. It also has some really technical sections along the whole thing.

Well, just rode the trail and its very good. Some parts of the trail no longer looks like its being maintain. Also had problems finding some of the trails due to construction in the area. Thats sad because you can see the potential thats there. I usually ride Flat Rock over in Columbus, but I think I'm going to be riding this from now on. :-)

This is the best trial I've ever ridden. When I started, I was able to ride maybe %50 of the trail, and after 2 years, I'm up to about 90. As previously posted, it's all singletrack. Amazingly varied...killer climbs(albeit nothing seriously extended), switchbacks, roots, drops, FR. The challenge keeps me coming back. Unfortunately, I'm moving to Birmingham, and everything remotely close PALES in comparison to this trail. I think I'm gonna shrivel up and die...I'm addicted to this trail. Sure, I can ride oak mountain and get a workout, but there's nothing that will kick my ass like this trail. *sigh* If you're within 2 hours(atlanta, birmingham...etc), GO RIDE THIS TRAIL. It's worth it. If you do, stop by Ride-On bikes in downtown Columbus(about 5 minutes from the trail), for a run-down of the trail. A guide is most helpful...it took me at least a year to figure it all out. I ride it twice a week and never do the same route twice. Did I mention I love this trail?! Best hidden gem in the southeast.

Directions to Trail of Tears Hwy 280 from Birmingam take US-80 towards Columbus Take the Summerville Road Exit Take immediate LEFT onto Stadium Dr Travel down Stadium Dr in Phenix City,AL Parrallel to football stadium there will be a lake on the Rt and ball fields on the Lt. You will come to a stop sign go through it and follow till the pavement ends. Part at the Fence and the Trail starts on the Rt. Follow the trail it will cross the road and then it gets crazy! You can also ride throught the gate and their will be trail entrances on the left. Most of the Trail is marked with yellow paint or markers. Very technical. (directions from a mechanic at Ride on Bikes) I was doing some Applications training at the New Hospital in Phenix City "Summit Med Center" which is Super Close to the trail head. I finished early and decided to do a little recon mission. I entered the trail head directly to the Right of the Gate. I followed the trail around for a while. As others have said the views of the River are very nice. One down side though is the amount of Litter and trash that is scattered about. Some parts of the initial trail resemble a landfill. Once you cross over the road and follow the trail along the river away from the Dam the trails get much better. Most of the trail I would consider All Mountain riding with very abrupt and steep decents/ascents with a liberal helping of switch backs thrown in. As you ride the trail you will see some pretty scary looking Ramps and Drops. One that immediately comes to mind ramped off a boulder and dropped at least 15-20ft. I did a fair amount of walking with the bike due to the fact that I'm still getting used to my new Time Atac pedals. All in all this trail offers a fantastic departure from the standard vanilla XC singletrack. I highly recommend checking out this trail if you're into AM of FR. There are tons of trails. I'm sure having a guide would make the the trail even better. Unfortunately being from out of town makes that difficult. I did call Ride on Bikes before venturing out. I spoke with one of the Mechanics and he was very friendly. He gave me directions to the trail head with a warning about the terrain. So go check it out.
