Description: Sometimes you are traveling with kids or neophyte mountain bikers and are
wondering where to take them. (I hesitate to say “beginners. They belong
in the middle of a grassy football field.) The following route describes a fun
and fairly easy practice trail. Okay, there are a couple places they will want
to get off and walk their bikes. But that’s all part of mountain biking, right,
Dad?
The following route describes a figure-eight route that incorporates a road
up the middle. It would probably be more fun for many riders to go out and
back on the singletrack. Your choice.

Route Directions:

Begin this figure-eight route by riding down Chavez Ranch Road

After ¼ mile continue straight on Chavez Ranch Road.

After ½ mile you will see Ram’s Head Trail cross the road. Continue straight
past it for now staying on the road.

At ¾ mile Ridge Trail crosses the road. Turn right and walk you bikes down
the steps.

At 1.0 mile you come to the junction with Ram’s Head Trail. Turn right.

At 1.25 mile you cross Chavez Ranch Road. Continue across to the other
side of the road staying on Ram’s Head Trail.

At mile 1.75 you cross a sandy wash. Walk your bike down into the wash
and up the far bank.

At mile 2.11 you intersect Old Post Trail. Turn left.

At mile 2.37 you return to the start.

Fun practice loop for those not ready to take on a longer or more technical ride.
