Description: From the Barracks Trailhead follow the single track as it climbs toward the foothills. When the trail levels out at the base of the foothills hang a hard right. Look for cairns and hug the foothills following the trail, you then begin climbing and contouring. The trail crests a ridge as it meets a fence. Follow the most obvious trail down into Mulkey Creek. You will have to cross Mulkey Cr. at the bottom and bushwhack to the road on the other side of the creek. Now just follow the old road up Mulkey Creek. A couple miles up the canyon the trail becomes singletrack. This is an old Forest Service trail and can be overgrown here and there. The trail crosses Mulkey Creek several times so be prepared to have wet feet. Spring of 2011 saw high runoff here and the trail is washed out in places as a result. Turn around at any time for an out and back or ride the small loop at the head of the canyon.
