Description
this trail is great if you can do shuttle runs. real tight twisty singletrack with a few small jumps. lots of tree roots to manage, a few rock gardens, some off camber sections and then there is a pretty good sized hip to hit in the middle. there is only one real small climb in the middle (takes about a minute if u hammer up it) then you get to an open space where there is a big open lookout area with a view of the whole S.F. bay. going down from this spot is real fun, switchback section with pretty big berms that u can really rail through.

check your speed as there is some blind corners and this is a shared trail with hikers. the hiker hippies here get fiesty sometimes

Review: A couple of good legal singletrack trails, which is rare for the East Bay, but this tight network is poorly signed, confusing, and the trails just aren't really that good. There are a couple of nice technical descents which can be shuttled, but even those aren't very long.

Review: Went to Oakland with 3 friends for a day of downhill. We parked at the bottom at Round table pizza and shuttled up 4 times. Great time, Several different well traveled hard packed trails, Lot's of hikers..We went in August. 62-68 deg very moist causing some mud and slippery areas, Also added to the fun. Trails were somewhat hard to navigate. also bike restrictions for some trails. All in all had a super time and great work out good combo of up and down.

Review: I'm not sure why anyone would rate this the 7th best trail in CA. I though it was average to below average in all areas (single track quality, technical sections, etc.)

Review: The other reviews are right on. The trail mix is excellent. Winding flat and wide trails to steep and technical descents and single track. You can do quite a few different loops here. Be careful of hikers on the trails.

Similar Trail: Camp Tamarancho

Review: No DOUBT it is in Oakland all the way and should be edited to reflect that. There is the fun DH in Cinderella, and Chaparral with some of the demons flying so fast they are barely touching the ground, plenty of nice redwood canopy and some technical single track. $2 hill is where we collect money for beers. I clear it 20% of the time..so the beer pool rolls over until we get success. JM is pretty small but has views not attainable at any urban park in America. Sequoia-Bay View trail has some of the finest views of SF and the Bay without being in a high rise building. The park will be cooler than the surrounding areas due to the redwood and the fog/marine layer that will sock it in during the year. Connect a loop with Redwood Park or even into Chabot and you'll get 30 miles and insane altitude gains. If you're here in the Bay Area, JM is a must. Hikers can be plentiful and clueless. Provide ample warning and you'll be OK. Don't bomb into a blind corner as you'll head into a pod of trail runners 4 abreast.

Similar Trail: Redwood Park and bombing down the West Ridge trail into the canyon. What goes down must come back up.

Review: Joaquin Miller Park is in OAKLAND, CA. Palos Colarado, Chaparral and Cinderella have some good downhill to practice on and bigtrees, 2$ hill, and backside of Palos Colorado have some good singletrack.

Review: Fantastic (if not the only) urban redwood single track in the US. Many challenging (think steep and fast) down hills can be linked into loops with mostly gentle climbs. One major error in the trails description needs to be corrected though: this trail is in Oakland, CA NOT Berkeley. It's part of the City of Oakland's Parks and Recreation Department. I doubt that Berkeley would allow anything riding this fun to go on in within their city limits.

Similar Trail: Truly Unique due to the urban redwood environment. But slightly similar to the Rockville Hills part in Fairfield, CA in that it's all about connecting different trails into a wide variety of loops.
