Description: Devil's Head Stretch is a multi-use trail that is full of moto-carved rollers, berms, dips, chutes, and off-shoots. It is densely populated with dirt-bikes on the weekends. This trail would be best ridden on a day during the work-week after a good rain, as this will have firmed the trail up; it is quite gravelly from all the dirt-bikers, and you will not have to contend with as many (if any) motos. This trail would be a blast for anyone looking to absolutely pin it on a slack workday, nailing berms and chutes, and then collapsing in glorious exhaustion with a frosty brew at the end of the ride. !Warning! Again, this is a multi-use trail which is very popular with motorized traffic. Unlike a moto-popular trail like Captain Jack\\\'s, where speeds are somewhat restrained by the steep-ish trail loop; things are not so slow here.

We came to the area with the intent to hike devil's head. We brought our mountain bikes along just in case. We actually jumped on the trail that follows rampart range rd. right at the parking lot to the devil's head camp ground. It had rained last night so the dirt was not too loose. We road all the way to the north end of rampart range rd and didn't come across very many motor cylces. This was a fun down hill. "off the freaking chain!" Maybe I enjoyed myself so much because I wasn't expecting anything. I will do this again for sure. Beautiful area.* Review edited 9/26/2009

I have rode this trail many times. It is a good roller. It is actually called FT 690 and part of the Rampart Range Motorized trails. It basically parallels Rampart Road all the way to Devil's Head. Some of these trails are pretty difficult on a mountain bike, because of the loose gravel from the motorcycles. I have ridden many of them. This one is a roller and a really good ride. I prefer riding it from jackson creek road/Rampart. There are some decent "motorized" trails in this area but I have never seen another mountain biker using them. I will add a map of the entire area so you can see the trails. Really good area to explore if you are bored with your regular rides.

My review is as my initial description. I have a few things to add, one being that this trail does fork off and head down the mountain side occasionally. Some of these appear to be bike & hiker friendly, but could get bad fast, so use caution. The other being, if you follow the road far enough, you'll get to a turn-off heading towards Devil's Head. This is a historic fire-lookout on top of a peak which affords a great view of the front range mountains. The distance to the lookout from the lookout parking area is about 2 miles, and is a walking-only trail.
