Description
McDonald Dunn Forest offers and incredible variety of terrain, ranging from short and steep, to long and rolling. Dans' Trail, is one of the newer trails to be added to the area. It is approximately 4miles long from top to bottom. Smooth, and insanely fast in sections. The beauty of McDonald Forest is the fact that you have numerous other trails to choose from (Horse Trail, Extendo, Alien, and a host of others). Most trails drop you off onto gravel roads that you can follow to the next trail. Some of the climbing is intense, and some of the rooted trails require a rider to seriously focus, otherwise, you will get beat up by the trail, or worse. If you can pick your lines though, it is an absolute blast. I can not say enough about the area. I am not going to say it is the greatest place ever, simply because my experiance is limited, but out of the place I have ridden, including the McKenzie River Trail, east of Eugene, McDonald can not be beat. The roads are numbered and you can pick up a map in the area. Also, the legal trails are all marked as well. If you are in the Corvallis Area, you should check it out. The scenery and trails are great.

Review: I enjoyed this ride. I started at chip ross park and was able to connect to the dans trail. A lot of uphill huffing and puffing but the downhilll parts were lots of fun.

Review: The trail is pretty easy, rather smooth surface with lots of turns. These turns are usually not banked and there are a lot of hiker's on the trail so we need to watch our speed. This trail will defiantly work on your lines around a turn. The park is within biking distance of Corvallis so that is really nice.

Review: Probably the best downhill singletrack in the Willamette Valley. Always in great condition. I've ridden it a handful of times in the last few months alone and never get tired of it.

Review: I've just ridden the trail yesterday and it's all clear and well packed. One thing to keep in mind, is that there are some big roots to watch out for. Other than that, its a clean track. Depending on which routes you choose to come down off of chip ross, you can take a straight shot down (not that great) or one of the many other trails which are all alot of fun. Great view at the top of chip ross too.

Review: Unfortunately time constraints limited my trip to only about a dozen or so miles, so this review only pertains to Dan's trail and some other trail linked to it right off the gravel road (I didn't have a map). Dan's climb I didn't find all that bad, the view was grand, and the decent was spectacularly fast. Very smoothe, so extremely low difficulty, be more careful about other riders coming up and horses as well (we saw one). I wish I had had more time to explore. I understand there is some fun stuff out here.

Review: The McDonald/Dunn Forest is an awesome place for mountain biking! There is usually a lot of climbing to be done to reach that trail, but well worth it. We ride weekly (Thurs or Fri). My favorite trails are: Give me a Day, Chuffed, Bombs Away, Shave and a Haircut, Kavorkian, Top Secret, Extendo, and yes Dan's is easy ..but you can really fly down that trail! Riding Dan's up is no cakewalk. Some of our starting points are: Rd 100, Sulphur Springs, Oak Creek, and we also ride from a couple of our group rider's homes. There are lots of loops and combinations of fireroad and trails. The cool thing is, they are right here in Corvallis!

Similar Trail: The McKenzie River Trail is great! It goes for 26.5 miles through beautiful water falls and lush forests. The upper 12 or so miles are quite technical, and the bottom is smooth singletrack through old growth. This trail can wear you out!

Review: The whole Mcdonald Forest area is great. A word of caution on Extendo and other tough trails. This past winter really took its toll on a lot of the paths and there are still downed trees in some spots, so be careful when riding for the first time.

Similar Trail: Bald Hill is a good place to warm up before heading up to Mcdonald forest if you are headed to Dimple Hill/Dan's Trail via the Oak Creek access road.
