Mountain Biking Craig Wood Trails

****   Add a review
#54 of 298 mountain bike trails in New York
#2,348 in the world

(from lakeplacid.com): "The trails at Craigwood have been made possible by a partnership between the Barkeater Trails Alliance (BETA) and the Town of North Elba. Construction of a smooth, fast, and "flowy" section of trail began in the summer of 2012 and is still ongoing."

Recommend doing the "Back 9" loop counterclockwise. Overall, lots of smooth flowing sections, and very few rock gardens and root-packed trails. Pretty awesome maintenance job on these trails done by the Barkeater Trails Alliance (BETA). See their web site for a map. Can also combine this ride with riding through the Lussi trials just east of Lake Placid for a full day of singletrack riding.

Getting there
from River Road, Lake Placid: Riders can follow River Rd. to Birdsong Lane, and then hop on the Jackrabbit Trails towards Craigwood Golf Course. Right before the Golf Course the singletrack begins on the left hand side. You can also access the trails directly from Craig Wood Golf Course - find the driving range, and ride down the left side of it at the woods' edge until you see the signs for the Poppa Wheelie trail. Maps are available at local bike shops or can be downloaded from the Barkeater Trails Alliance web site.

Parking on River Rd: Riders can use the pull-off on River Rd, at the Steel Deck Bridge. Follow Jackrabbit Trail signs toward the Red Barn to find Birdsong Way."
