The Coro XC is a two way trail that starts at the base of the Coronet Peak ski field and takes the long way to the top, gradually rising as it swings way out east then back. The gradient is reasonable and you'll be able to ride up most of the way. The ride back down is stunning with lots of switchbacks, some nice little jumps, and generally loose, flowing, purpose-built singletrack through wide open spaces with not a single pine tree to dodge or obstruct the awesome panoramic views of lakes and mountains spread out below.

Here's how to find the start of the trail... Start from where the road ends in front of the base ski field building, go round between the main chairlift and the base building and follow the maintenance 4x4 track up the beginners slope. Stay right (low) where it branches and after about 200 metres you'll see the benched singletrack dead ahead.

If you're reasonably fit, you'll get to the top in under an hour. It's just over 4 km (2 miles) each way and the height gain is nearly 500m (1500 feet).

The Coro DH trail also starts at the top so it's the fast way down for expert riders. It's steep with lots of jumps, drops and berms.

Getting there
Get a bike taxi from Queenstown or drive or ride north out of town along Gorge Road through Arthurs Point and turn left up Coronet Peak Road. It ends at the base of the ski field where there are many car parks. The distance is 16 km (10 miles) and the elevation gain is 900 metres (3000 feet)
