Description: This trail starts out on the same track as the Green Mountain option. Take the Shingleman trail to the right, then make a left onto the Morrison Creek trail. Follow this down to Buffalo Creek Road. Go right on this doubletrack for about .3 miles, then head back up the singletrack Shingleman trail. This trail covers a large burned out area from a forest fire several years ago (before the Hayman fire). This trail is a bit sandier and more exposed than the Green Mountain option and climbs about 800 feet total.

Lunar Loop is a really fun trail, I've never seen anything that looks like it. A lot of people think it looks desolate, but I think it's really scenic, especially in the evening when it's quiet and all the other riders have left. It gets really hot, so bring lots of water! I ran out several miles away from the Jeep and forgot my purifier, so I was screwed; don't make the same mistake. Overall this trail is a dream, just be cautious if you're headed down Shinglemill, there are a couple of spots that are very deceptive. I've gone too fast a couple of times because the jumps are really fun, and then almost ET'd off the trail and impaled myself on burned up timber. Bottom line, if you're in Buffalo Creek, don't pass up this gem.

This is a great trail. Fun fast single track going down hill and a nice gradual climb back up. Plus it had beautiful scenery.

I've ridden a good chunk of this trail, and it was a blissfull dose of beautiful colorado singletrack!

Add this to your list of awesome trails in Buffalo Creek. Keep a careful watch for the sign that guides you back to the Shingleman trail from the doubletrack - I missed it the first time. I've posted a couple of pix here so you can see where it look for it. Regarding the fires, Trek7 is correct on this point that a lot of people get confused on - the burn areas you see in this trail network are from the Buffalo Creek fire, not the infamous Hayman burn, which came a few years later, was much larger and farther to the south. I'll give this trail a green rating but it's probably more like a blue/green.

This was a great trail with tons of dangerous curves that threaten to throw you into the sticks and burned wood. Running this counter clockwise unfortunatly places the uphill section at the end of ride, but the 800 foot climb is never too steep to handle. My only complaint were all the people that parked roadside instead of in the designated area to avoid paying the $4 entry fee. Considering most people I saw were riding $2000+ bikes, I think you can spare $4.

All in all a fun trail. Fun turns at the top with some up and over humps around boulders. It smooths out toward the bottom with some nice speed thru the trees.
