This loop is in my top list of favorite downhills in the Front Range. The climb to the summit will get your heart pumping, but it's really not bad, especially when rewarded with the sweet downhill!

My wife and I did this on a whim today and were definitely caught off guard. It looks very similar to Evergreen Mt. trail however there are A LOT of technical sections. IMHO, if you're not good at bike trials it'll be nearly impossible NOT to walk your bike at all on this trail. If you love a good lung buster with thought provoking technical sections and fast downhill then this trail is for you. If you plan to hit this when you’re not up to par, be prepared to get spanked.

Classic Colorado riding: long climb through the the trees, great scenery at the top, and a long, flowy downhill. This trail can be crowded at peak times, so try it on a weeknight.

See skibum's review below. Climb up is steady and is spotted with some techy sections. Downhill is fun and fast.

Beautiful trail and tons of fun but very technical. Lots of steep climbs and plenty of big rocks. Bergen was where I had my first serious fall and I took the fall with pride. :-) Awesome views! Very crowded during weekend! I was heading down at 11 am and had to constantly stop for hikers and other bikers - go during weekday or super early on a weekend to avoid the crowds.

This trail is crazy! super hard technical uphill with quite a bit of elevation gain, but the downhill makes it all worth while. definitely take the Bergen peak trail all the way to the top for a wicked view! I would be wary if trying this one on a hardtail. one of the best trails in the area.

Similar Trail: apex for technical challenge, mount falcon for amount of climbing

No doubt about it, this is a sick climb. The grade is relentless for about 4 and a half miles. The switchbacks are tight and always seem to be immediately followed by a 1 - 2' step up. The combination of grade, technical challenge (lots of rocks--about a half dozen dismounts for most riders), and length make this one a real beaut! Is it worhth it? You bet! The climb up is big fun if you like an aerobic workout dotted with technical challenges. The panoramic view from the top is stellar, including views of at least four 14ers, the surrounding mountains and valleys, and the prairie below. Then comes the descent--wow! Relentlessly steep, lots of tight switchbacks, rock gardens, roots, beautiful aspens and always those distracting views. It's hard to overrate this trail for advanced or adventurous riders. The only drawback is it's overall popularity with all user groups, so it's almost a mandatory weekday ride for MTBs.

really fun trail with lots of technical terrain- going up the too far trail is a good workout.

Wow this was the most difficult climbing I've done in a long time, pushed me beyond my limits, it can be VERY steep sometimes and VERY technical as well, and the climbing seemed endless, nearly killed me but gives me something to work on. Coming back down was awesome, steep fun and technical. The switchbacks going up weren't to bad, still tough, but wasn't able to take them going down, I'm not good at taking those turns going down. Looking forward to next time though! Hopefully its warmer out. BTW there wasn't any snow on the trail, and there where only a few others on the trail being a Tuesday.

Similar Trail: Hall Ranch in Lyons, for the technical riding.

This is a very tough, challenging ride. My family and I hiked it on Sunday, and I rode it the next evening after work. Ride this trail on a weekday if you can. I saw 3 hikers and 3 bikers on a Monday night - sweet! Once you're about .5 miles in on the Bergen Peak trail get set for some granny-gear climbing and very difficult technical sections. I suck at waterbars anyway, and this ride helped cement that fact. Lots of steep sections, so you'd better have the legs AND the lungs. The Too-Far trail downhill is fantastic, and worth the pain. Zoomy, flowy through the woods, and then technical rocks and switchbacks. Keep your speed under control, as there are a few surprises. If you like tough climbing and a technical challenge, then this trail is for you.

I'm glad I tried this on a weekday with little traffic because I didn't feel so bad blocking the trail. I am obviously not Mr. Hardcore but there were very many technical obstacles there . Even on the downhill, i frequently had to get off my bike. IMHO this one is just for the experts. On the bright side, there were some really great views and the trail is well shaded so it doesn't get that hot.

This is one of my favorite rides on the planet. To me, this is an almost perfect trail. Great forest, the terrain is just challenging enough. The view at the top is awesome. If you want, you can come in from the back side.

Once you get out of the Elk Meadow area and start the climb up; you can really begin to appreciate this trail. A great, sometimes technical climb all the way to the peak and some fun, sometimes technical downhill. You're shaded by the trees for the most part so bringing survival supplies on this trail is not really necessary;)

Great climb and as you get to the top the trail gets tougher and steeper. Try to ride this on weekdays though because the park gets really crowded on the weekends.
