Mountain bike bashguards are designed to protect the chainrings from being bent or broken on large boulders or logs. Generally only the most aggressive of bikes, such as all mountain, freeride, or downhill bikes, feature bashguards.
Bashguards come in a variety of forms and configurations. Some of the most popular are mounted onto the frame and are immobile, but others are mounted directly onto the crankset, turning with the cranks.
